I'm with you. Some production companies band 4/0 and I'm not a fan. I suppose that if you have enough stagehands, it might save time. But sheesh, it's heavy!
I'm noticing that in several of the photos accompanying this article, the lengths of feeder are bundled together, rather than laid out parallel and flat. It has been my understanding that bundling feeder is not a recommended practice due to an increased likelihood of all lengths heating up due to a fault in one. Please address this. Thanks!
You are observant! #2 AWG feeder cable is often bundled or "banded," and it's referred to as banded feeder. There are a couple of reasons why. And I'll tell you in the next post. Not because I'm trying to be a jerk, but because it's a longer explanation and I think many people might benefit from reading it. So if you don't mind too much...check back in a couple of days. I'll start working on it now. And in the meanwhile, I'll say that banding feeder cable does contribute to increased heating. It's not a likelihood, it's a given.
